Shopping by Personality

It’s December 12th and just thirteen days before Christmas! If you don’t have your Christmas shopping done by now you could probably use some quick advice.

Take a quick inventory of the people on your list and if they fit the following descriptions, then buy accordingly.

The playful, social talkers just want to have fun and get attention. They are usually the life of the party, the loud talkers and dressers. Buy anything that would draw attention to them. Is it large? Does it have bling? Then they will probably like it. Loud tie or socks for the man, large hoops or dangling earrings for the female Sanguine. Will it be fun? Wii, Kinect and other games that can be played with others is great. Catch Phrase has a new digital version that would make a great group game for parties.

The type A personalities who are driven to achieve their goals may be intense and focused but they will enjoy any gift that would help them reach their goals. A daytimer, Ipad, or blackberry are good choices. All of their hobbies are working hobbies like gardening, painting, decorating, carpentry, etc. If you know their hobby then get them something for the hobby. I bought my husband a gardening caddy with all the tools he needed and he loved it. This is the personality that doesn’t mind practical gifts for Christmas.

The quiet, sensitive, analyzing Perfectionists are more difficult to buy for. They buy classic clothes and jewelry that doesn’t draw attention to themselves. Jewelry should be small and tasteful but good quality. They are driven to organize and put things in order. A piece of technology that helps them to keep their life in order is always appreciated. The Perfects enjoy beauty and art so a CD of classical music or a ticket to a Broadway show or Longwood gardens may be perfect. A gift certificate is great because they get to choose their own perfect gift. But if you buy a gift, give them the receipt so they can take it back if it’s not perfect.

The most difficult personality to recognize is the easiest for which to buy. The cool, calm peaceful personality is not opinionated and is easy to please. They like comfort above all so a comfortable pair of slippers, snuggly, or comfortable sweater will be just fine. They usually have one thing at which they excel or they have a hobby collecting things. If you know their hobby then buy accordingly.

We tend to give what we would like to receive but we need to give what they like. Christmas shopping is not that difficult when you know the person’s personality. Have fun Christmas shopping!

FLAWLESS

PENNDEL-blog-icon-wop

How is it that the lover in Song of Solomon sees His beloved as “flawless?” Song of Solomon chapter five, verse two says, “Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one…” It’s incomprehensible that Christ would see His bride as flawless when we are so broken, so self-centered, so distracted. As women we’re merciless on ourselves and feel totally ugly and worthless before a perfect God.

I won’t attempt to answer this question because I’m quite sure Liz Curtis Higgs will be explaining her theme “Flawless” at the Women of Purpose Conference in Hershey on November 12 and 13. I hope you have found your roommates and have registered to go.

Liz, herself, was pulled from a life of drugs, sex, addiction and brokenness by the irresistible love of God. A woman once deeply flawed and broken now speaks around the world of the amazing grace of God.

Don’t miss this opportunity for God to speak into your life at the Women of Purpose Conference.

If you’re from Calvary Assembly of God in Dover go to our website for instructions about how to register by mail or online. Otherwise, go to

www.penndelwomenofpurpose.org to get more information and register.

I hope to see you there in all of your beauty.
